About Lady Meet our fur baby ... LADY MEI - LI... Lady's full name is bigger than she is: Kara Ko's Lady Mei-Li of the Sea. We searched high and low for an oriental name that befits a Shih Tzu. However,we wound up calling her "Lady" after my favorite character "Lady" from "Lady & the Tramp." It seemed much too plain for her Royal Self so we added her kennel name "Kara Ko" (sea shell), she was born in Ocean City thus "of the Sea", Mei -Li described how we saw her "beautiful, enchanting". Yes,naming her was quite a project:) Lady was born December 1, 2000, one of four beautiful puppies. Our first visit was 12/11/00 and it was love at first sight. Lady was 11 days old. We didn't think we were going to be able to hold the pups but their gorgeous mom, Star, just stepped aside, as Betsy asked her to do, watched protectively & allowed us to pick up each of her new babies. As I held Lady she opened her eyes for the first time & stole our hearts. Lady's coloring is quite unique for a Shih Tzu. Tri color: red & white with black ears & tipping. She has something about her which seems to say "I'm just a little better than most!" and no one has ever heard us disagree. LADY is a ball of fire, full of life, vigor & vitality. She is sweet, very clownlike, playful, lovable, tough and so beautiful. Ah, beautiful... and she knows it. She has an element of aloofness to her that adds a teeny bit of mystery & independence to her outgoing personality. Picture Perfect Puppy...Lady loves having her picture taken and tolerates my dressing her up very well. She has photos with Santa, Easter Bunny, and hundreds of others. She's litter-box trained, and very clean. What's so cute is that after she uses her litter-box she comes running to find me so that she can show me & I can clean it immediately. She finds me, runs circles around me & jumps till I check it out! Lady Mei-Li is our pride and joy. Our beautiful-enchanting Lady :) She's an "Original Individual" Out Little Fur Baby loves any stuffed toy. She really enjoys every one of her 30 or more stuffed toys and gives each toy attention. After she's been away from home, with us, for a few hours she returns to her toybox, empties it and checks each stuffed toy. Almost as if she's taking inventory. She loves stuffed bones, greenies, Solid Gold treats, cheese, liverwurst & anything that is not a meal. Her downfalls. . . she's addicted to toilet paper! Tearing it up, that is. Only if she's not being given the attention she feels she deserves. If I'm on the computer or phone for a while she gets annoyed. "I'll fix her", she says. She'll go in the bathroom and shred the toilet paper & has the nerve to come and get me so that I can clean it up. Yes, she has maid service.. that's me! Secondly, Lady is an early riser. She can go to bed at 11:30 and still insists that I get out of bed at 6 O'Clock. It's not that she needs to go potty, or is hungry, or wants to play. NO..it's just that she wants me up and out of bed. Once I'm up & I have a cup of coffee she proceeds to one of her favorite spots and goes back to sleep. Lady has come to several car shows with us and is a bigger hit with the children and adults than our 1934 Ford. She loves kids and you can do anything to her, she loves the touch of humans. Remember, she truly believes she is (as we do) human and not a four legged canine. Every so often I bring Lady to work with me. She has the run of the office and loves the attention she gets. She hardly ever barks, she'll stay in her office crate most of the time and, like all my co-workers, her favorite time of the work day is lunch. She gets to sample what everyone has for lunch that day :)
